About the Artist

Damien R. Hutar

The "Parables of The New Testament" carved on leather as an art series was conceived as a  creative energy release while the artist was serving as a helicopter crew chief in the Republic of South Vietnam  with the United States Cavalry, "D"  Troop, 1st Sqdn/1st Cavalry,"First Regiment of Dragoons".

The resultant artifacts come from turning the immense energy of the wars anger into something creative and beautiful. Carved leather has a permanence that cannot be redone or covered over very easily.  Once the dyes are set down they are down for good.

As a footnote to the whole story, the first real artistic endeavor that Damien undertook was when he painted up an AH-1G Cobra attack  helicopter for the United States Cavalry while in Vietnam. (He does have a picture of that helicopter someplace.)

Of the many poems that the artist has written, four of these poems have been published in four different Anthologies and two of them have gone into song on a couple of albums down in Nashville. And then there's the book on war and theology that the artist is in the process of publishing.
